The first dusting of snow arrived this morning and it’s windy and  cold outside.  The temperature suddenly dropped from 22 degrees C yesterday to 4 degrees C today.  I hope that this will not last for long as I  don’t like cold weather.

Yesterday we went to Nafplion.    You can see a video I took a couple of years ago here.   There is great news behind this visit but I don’t want to get into this right now as I want to focus on the book and the  giveaways.

For those who may not know yet, the cookbook was published on Thursday.   I made a quick post on Thursday to announce it as we were going away the next day and today there is  more to add to that post before announcing the giveaway:

I know that the price may seem high for a lot of you but taking into consideration the time needed to write a cookbook, the expenses paid, taxation etc., this was the best price I could offer, retaining a small profit for myself.

After the publication of the book I can now see the shipping expenses, which are also very high, unless you live in USA or Canada.  I was quite shocked to see that you need to pay $13 to get the book to Greece or Cyprus.  My profit is WAYYYY lower than that amount.

  1. I am offering you a $3 discount if you pay through Createspace.  The price will be 24.50 plus shipping expenses:  The code to use is:   2C7LWMYF
  2. CreateSpace does not offer Paypal:  You can use paypal by paying me directly $27.50, but my  gift to you  from today and until Christmas is to waive the shipping expenses.    (Please bear in mind that I have no discount on the shipping expenses.  These will be paid out of my profit.  For some destinations I may still have a small profit but for longer destinations, I may be even or even pay out of my pocket).

I shall try and make some contacts with bookshops in Greece & Cyprus but until then, I have ordered some books which will be sold directly by me here in Athens and by a relative of mine in Cyprus.  You can contact me for more information.

You can check which method suits you better and decide.

If you choose the second method, all you need to do is go to Paypal, choose send money to friends and family and make the payment by just adding my e-mail address, ivyliac AT gmail DOT com and then send me your mailing address, at the same e-mail and I will send you the book immediately.

NOW to the G I V E A W A Y

To enter this giveaway please leave a comment below until the 24th December and tell me know what is your favourite Cypriot food or what you like most about Cypriot cuisine.  If you tweet it or repost it on facebook, spread the news, mentioning that Ivy’s cookbook Mint, Cinnamon & Blossom Water, Flavours of Cyprus, Kopiaste, has now been published and you get another entry.  Come back and leave a separate comment for each with the URL on Twitter or Facebook to get an extra vote.

The two winners will be selected by RANDOM.ORG on Christmas Day.

More giveaways will be announced shortly.

Don’t forget to check the other Giveaway if you want to win the Cookbook of Tessa Kiros’ – Falling Cloudberries.

Thank you again for all your support.

Hugs to you all,

  5. Aparna says:

I'm so happy to see your book, Ivy. Its been so long since I visited but I'm definitely going to try my luck for a copy of your book. LOL
Have to confess that Cypriot cuisine (except what I've se seen on your blog) is totally new to me, so maybe I'll start with your book.
My recent post It Was There- So I took It!

    • I can understand Aparna. The same applies to me but now that the book is over I will definitely have more time to visit my friends and you are one of them. I am sure you have tried something if you have tried Greek recipes as most recipes are the same.

  7. Katerina says:

Ivy I just want a copy for me, not for free. I want to pay for it. After much thinking I would say that Cypriot loukoumades are my most desired sweet.

  8. Thank you so much.

@ Katerina: Even if you buy the book you can always give it as a gift to someone special or if you have a blog, give it as a giveaway to your readers. I don't mind.

  9. Georgia says:

Ilove Halloumi with a squeeze of lemon! Ivy, how do I buy the book? I live in the Boston, USA area. Can I get it from a local bookstore?

Eva said that she likes "Flaounes", which is a cheese bread or rather it is rolled phyllo with cheese. I just explained that this recipe is in the cookbook as well and there is a tutorial on how to make your own dough and method to roll it out on the pasta machine but also manually.

  12. Anna says:

My Cypriot friend Thekla brought us some haloumi. She paired it with cucumbers for a great combo. Then we ate loukoumades for dessert. Simple and satisfying.

    • Halloumi and cucumber is a wonderful combo. The only thing missing is some "zivania" or "ouzo". Loukoumades or lokmades, as they are called in Cyprus, (fried yeast batter, like doughnuts) is also in the cookbook. They differ from loukoumades made in other parts of Greece as they have potato in them.

  13. Elena says:

Καλορίζικο το βιβλίο και πάλι !!! Θα προσπαθήσω να το αγοράσω σύντομα για μαγειρέψω κυπριακές νοστιμιές !!!!!

  14. Jenny says:

Elioti is one of my favourites. I am a Cypriot living in Birmingham. Can we get it from Amazon.UK?

    • Elioti is homemade pastry filled with olives. A perfect savory snack and yes, that's in the book as well. Jenny, unfortunately it won't be on Amazon.UK. It will be on but as they told me it will take them about one month to activate the book on Amazon.

  15. simona says:

    my favorite is a salad,of course,horiatiki!
    ivy,how can i buy the book?i don't have a paypal…i want to send money to you,can i?

  18. Cherine says:

Ohhh I'd really love to win a copy of your book.
    I like fasolia!!

Xanthi, says she likes sheftalia and remembers eating some kind of potatoes in Cyprus. I suppose she is referring to patates antinahtes, baby potatoes, cracked and cooked with red wine and dried coriander seeds. Of course, that's in the book as well.

  20. Congratulations, Ivy! Finally everything is settled.

  24. Mary says:

Dear Ivy, for me being a Cypriot it's too difficult to choose just one recipe! But a food I definetely love is kolokasi yiaxni me koupepia.
Your book is a great gift for friends from abroad. Please let us know when it's going for sale on

  25. Sharon says:

I LOVE tsatziki, especially with honey glazed pitta bread. I'm not sure if that's strictly cypriot food though? In which case, I would say moussaka. I've never made cypriot food but I'd love to learn how to. If I won, I would totally love trying out all your recipes!

Giota likes halloumi on the grill but also in salads with balsamic vinegar. I have three different salads using grilled halloumi: with watermelon, with grapes and with figs.

  27. Evi says:

I'd love to win a copy of course!! First because I am half Cypriot :) (my mother is from Cyprus), second because I love the Cypriot recipes… and third my favorite is "pourekia". I used to make them with my grandmother… I'll never forget the smells and the taste…

  28. Sanjeeta kk says:

Congrats for the book release, and am glad that I hopped here at right time. Would love to grab a copy of this delicious book soon. Best wishes.

  29. Niki says:

Halloumopita! Any sort of bread with cheese is yummy! But I add roasted garlic and fresh cracked pepper to mine. I really need to make this again, it's been a while!
I would love love love to win a copy of the cookbook! I was going to have to wait to buy it since this christmas season is breaking the bank!

  31. Maria says:

Congrats again Ivy! There is much I like about Cypriot cuisine … from the flaounes, to the seftalia, to koupepia, to pites stuffed with lountza and halloumi … and on the sweet side soutzouk and daktyla. I only wish I can visit beautiful Cyprus sometime soon.

  32. Elpis says:

Hello Ivy and congratulations on the publication of your book. I have followed your blog for years. As a Cypriot who recently moved to Greece I love reading your blogspot and it makes me proud to see that your book with Cypriot recipes has been published. As my favourite food I would choose fakoryzo moutzientra. I think the much derided pulses have a huge role in authentic Cypriot diet.

    • Hello Elpis, I am glad you have left a message. Are you in Athens? Moutzentra is of course in the cookbook as well and I have heard a lot of nutritionists mentioning on T.V. about the benefits of this Cypriot dish. It is perfect for vegetarians as it is dried legumes with a lot of protein,

      • Elpis says:

Hi Ivy. I live in Patra. I only have about a month in Greece and, like you, I am married to a Peloponnesian. I have been following your webpage for a few years now but this is the first time I got in touch. I particularly like the traditional Cypriot recipes that you put on your site. Keep up the good work!

  33. Sage says:

Wow! I know a bit of how you are feeling. A few years ago I published a recipe book called Cuisine de Chez Nous. I00 books with family Recipes; I gave them to my close friends and family .Everyone appreciated the work I put in this. I am sorry I didn't not have more printed.
Your book sounds wonderful; I wonder when it will be available on this side of the globe.
    Thank you for your visit.

Καλορίζικο το βιβλίο σου! I love many Cypriot dishes like afelia and koupes. Cyprio "meze" is probably one of the most delicious experiences I have ever had. Pity about the post expenses, but it is really nice of you to offer free postage. I wish you great sales!

  39. Simona says:

I made halloumi a little while ago, and even though it was only a shadow of the real thing, we liked it a lot. I think it is a great cheese, versatile and delicious. Grilled halloumi is my choice.
